Well, I did it. I got onstage for my first stand-up comedy performance — and there’s video to prove it.
Many Hats, One Microphone
I prepared a script. I practiced. And then I got onstage and went mostly off-script.
One bit that made it into the show was my many hats material: the consultant guy, the handyman guy, the Airbnb guy — and now the comedy guy. What a joke.
Not every planned joke made it into the performance. I went in other directions, and that’s part of what made the experience interesting.
Did Anybody Laugh?
According to YouTube’s video analysis, the audience can be heard laughing during the many-hats bit around 2:54–3:00. I’ll take that as an encouraging start.
First Show, First Lessons
It was fun. I came away a little proud, too. This Comedy Course is about writing, practicing, getting onstage, and finding out what actually happens when the microphone is in your hand.
Watch the performance above and tell me what you think.
