A Cleveland Double Isn’t Just an Investment. It Can Be a Family Plan.

Upstairs: you. Downstairs: family—or a tenant. That’s the flexibility I love about the Cleveland double. A two-flat can accommodate an aging parent, an adult child, siblings, or a renter while preserving separate living spaces. It can be a first home, a multigenerational home, or a small investment property; sometimes the same building plays all three roles over time. Brown Design Studio describes this versatility in its article on the over-under duplex, and I see the same possibilities in Cleveland neighborhoods like Cudell and Edgewater. Of course, you still have to verify legal unit status, financing, safety requirements, accessibility, and what the building actually permits. If you have a double you’re thinking of selling—or you’re ready to find one to buy—I’d be glad to discuss the options with you.

Inspired by Brown Design Studio’s October 2015 article, “The Over-Under Duplex”.
